Neil J. Smelser is a senior scholar and University Professor at the University of California and author of several UC Press books, most recently The Odyssey Experience and Reflections on the University of California.
John Reed is currently Chairman of the Corporation of MIT and former Chairman of the New York Stock Exchange and former Chairman and CEO of Citicorp, Citibank and Citigroup.

In book "Usable Social Science", written by Neil J. Smelser and John S. Reed, authors narrate contemporary debates on research methodologies and ethical issues related to social science research. This book divides into two parts, namely, Part I. Arenas of Usability and Part II. The Big Picture of Usability. This book contains 10 chapters and a comprehensive bibliography. I found following three chapters interesting and useful to academic researchers: 8. Methods of Research and Their Usability, 9. Social Change, Social Problems, and Demands for Knowledge, and 10.
